Cyber Citizenship for Librarians

For the last decade, libraries have become key stakeholders in providing media and information literacy in communities to help teach patrons the skills needed to navigate an overly saturated digital ecosystem that is flooded with misinformation. Through media literacy, children and young adult librarians can educate and empower students to become resilient to online misinformation. Resources provided in this hub will help equip librarians with the tools, knowledge, and information to implement media literacy in their schools or public libraries.

ALA Guidelines

ALA and Media Literacy Education

The American Library Association (ALA) has designed a media literacy guide to support libraries in their efforts to improve media literacy skills in their communities. Guidelines provided in the manual include resources and ideas to plan programs and activities to teach media literacy skills and integrate those skills into programming. YALSA Recommendations

The Teen Literacies Toolkit

The Young Adult Library Services Association (YALSA) has been active in engaging media literacy education in their programming efforts and is currently a member of the National Media Literacy Alliance. YALSA has published a Teen Literacies Toolkit and Teen Services Competencies for Library Staff that are all aligned with supporting media literacy education.
